“Seeing is believing” is the mantra many people in the world live by. They can’t put faith in God because he can’t be seen or provide a direct response in human terms. But the Bible shows us proof and how we can “see” God.
Most of us have been conditioned through the education system and society that the only definition of truth can be observed and measured. This is known as the “scientific worldview.”
Yet, scientific “facts” change all the time through discoveries, often in light of technological advances that make them possible.
Today, wireless technology is all around us, and we take its invisibility for granted. But the science of invisible waves is a prime example that seeing is not necessary for belief.
Guglielmo Marconi is credited as the inventor of the radio and co-recipient of the 1909 Nobel Prize in physics for his contribution to the development of wireless telegraphy. When he wrote to the Ministry of Post and Telegraphs explaining his wireless telegraph machine, the Minister wrote “to the Longara” on the letter, referring to the insane asylum.
Unfortunately, this is the way some mockers see people of faith. Religious people are ridiculed with derogatory statements about their belief in “an invisible man in the sky.”
“For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
All we need to do is look around to appreciate the enormous complexity of the world around us. Even every living creature has a micro “world” within itself of other living systems.
The theory of evolution proposes that everything we see develops over time. But many scientists have admitted that some things could not have evolved. They needed to be complete and working from the very start.
“He made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.”
– Jeremiah 51:15
The entire universe is a system that in many ways works like clockwork, being stable, allowing us to predict their activity.
All these things point to an intelligent designer: God. There is no better explanation.
Many prideful human beings want to deny any possibility of a creator God. The Bible calls this out as ignorance.
“As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the bones are formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.”
– Ecclesiastes 11:5
There are enormous things science can still not explain and perhaps never will.
But the invisible quality of God is everywhere, as is the Holy Spirit for those who seek God and accept His gift. Jesus said:
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
– John 3:8
